You will be sent a
questionnaire before the course starts, so that we can assess whether you have
any particular needs during the course/session (multiple pregnancies, disabled parents,
health concerns etc.) and there will also be an opportunity to discuss any
particular areas which you are concerned about at the very start of the course
when we set an agenda. The course will cover: Pregnancy,
Labour and Birth What to expect in the third trimester of
pregnancy Recognising the onset of labour and what
happens if you are overdue What affects labour How to cope with labour (using active birth
positions, massage, breathing, water) Pain relief Interventions to normal labour
(Caesarean
birth, forceps, ventouse, syntometrine) Role of the birth partner Communicating with your care givers Parenting What to expect in the first couple of days Feeding Practical babycare Safe sleeping and comforting crying babies Surviving the early weeks – physically
and emotionally All the information is given in a completely unbiased
manner. We are there to advise you
what your options are, but not to sway in one direction or another.
This course is NOT a lecture. It
is a completely interactive learning experience which is designed to keep you
motivated and inspired. We will
take regular breaks and will often split up into smaller groups to explore the
issues at hand. As there is a
physical aspect to the course, it is recommended that comfortable, loose
clothing be worn throughout the weekend.
At Lifestyle Antenatal, we fully understand that
regular antenatal classes are not ideal for all prospective parents.
Many parents would prefer a more personalised and private service in the
comfort of their own home. Maybe
you are unable to commit to an entire weekend or to attend regular weekly
sessions offered by other organisations, or maybe one or both of you is already a
parent and you have more specific needs. It may be that this
is your second or subsequent child, following a traumatic first birth and you
want to discuss ways of improving your outcome, second time around.
Whatever the reason, we will do our best to provide you with the
information you require, at a time that suits you. What do we get ? These sessions are
costed on an individual basis (* see below for breakdown) and will typically
